Positive Behavior Intervention Support
Moreno Valley Unified School District operates on the principle that positive school cultures promote the success of ALL students. Students feel safe and are more engaged in high quality schools with academic support services, positive behavior strategies, high expectations and community resources. Positive Behavior Intervention Support Plan (PBIS) is a district-wide, multi-tiered framework used to impact a school’s culture by developing positive learning behavior in all students.
Sugar Hill is in the second year of PBIS implementation. The focus of PBIS is on prevention and behavior instruction. Consequences for inappropriate behavior include re-teaching appropriate behavior skills while minimizing disruption to the student’s academic day. Through the dedicated efforts of our PBIS team, school wide expectations for behavior are being taught to our students on a regular basis. Weekly students learn a new social skill as they watch a fun staff-created video which features a contrast of appropriate and inappropriate behaviors. Students receive positive praise in the form of Dragon Pride Cards which are handed out when students are seen modeling expected behaviors. The cards go into a weekly drawing for prizes.
Parents and families are an important part of an effective PBIS school culture. Support for the policies and procedures demonstrate to our scholars how important the learning environment is, and that we are all partners in their success!
If you have any questions about our PBIS program, please feel free to contact the school office.
Thank you for your support.
